BJP smells ‘plot’ to divide Bengal

State BJP President Dilip Ghosh on Monday said that a conspiracy is being hatched to carve out a ‘Paschim Bangladesh’ by bifurcating West Bengal. Commenting on the violence at Kaliachak in Malda during an interaction with the media here today, Ghosh, who wrapped up his three-day tour of north Bengal on Monday, said anti-national forces are active here.

“Conspiracies were hatched to divide the nation in 1946 and 1947. Now, similar tactics are being adopted to create Paschim Bangladesh by dividing West Bengal. The Trinamul Congress is encouraging fundamentalists,” he said. He added said Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari will address a public meeting in Malda on18 January, while party president Amit Shah will address a rally in Howrah on 25 January.

Ghosh met party workers in Siliguri, and said that they were concerned about the plight of tea workers in the Dooars region. “The Union minister of state for commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman, visited north Bengal two times to address the situation,” he added. The BJP leader said his party will contest the Assembly election all alone, and, without naming them, criticised both the Congress and the CPI-M. “Two political parties which were rejected by the people are depending on each other to contest the elections. BJP would fight the polls alone,” Ghosh said.
